What is the availability of Junior Squads? Junior Squads are offered after school from Monday to Friday & weekends (Saturday & Sunday) during school terms 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the following locations: Manly Squash Club, Warringah Recreation Centre, Kentwell Road Mondays 5:00pm to 6:00pm 10 to 16 year-olds Sydney CBD Squash Club, Castlereagh Street Thursdays 4:30pm to 5:15pm 5 to 9 year-olds Norths Fitness Centre, Cammeray Tuesdays 5:15pm to 6:00pm 10 to 16 year-olds Saturdays 9:00am to 9:45am 5 to 9 year-olds Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre, Darlington Lane, Sydney Mondays 4:30pm to 5:15pm 5 to 9 year-olds Mondays 5:15pm to 6:00pm 10 to 16 year-olds Please note, the squads are expanding quickly. Can I register after the term has started? Yes. We can accommodate if we have the capacity. Are any incentives offered for participation? The Active Kids program, run by the NSW Government, provides two $100 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of school-enrolled children that can be used to offset the cost of Junior Squads. To apply for the voucher go to https://sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/activekids/parents How do I redeem my Active Kids voucher and register for the Junior Squads? It’s easy! Simply send the voucher number to Ursula (our friendly admin team member), and the child’s date of birth, and Ursula will register your child for the class. How long is each term of Junior Squads? A typical Junior Squads term runs for nine weeks. How long is each session of Junior Squads? Each session runs for 60 minutes. What if a child missed the start date? Can they still enrol with an Active Kids voucher? Yes. The child will be required to attend nine weeks in total. So, the weeks missed will be offered in the following term (conditions apply). What age is appropriate for a child to start Junior Squads? Our Junior Squads classes are suited for children aged 5 to 18 years. How can I choose the day that works best for me/the child? For your convenience, we offer classes on different days from various locations, so you can choose the one that works best for you and your child. Does my child need to be at a specific fitness or skill level to participate? The Junior Squads are set up to suit varying levels of commitment and ability. To make the training challenging without demotivating the child, we will place him or her in a class based on his or her ability. Our coaching team will vary the levels based on the commitment and ability of your child. Thus, your child will be placed in a class based on his/her age group first, followed by ability and commitment. We offer classes for the following age groups: Ages 5–9 Ages 10–16 Please note, if we don’t have enough children for an age group, we will allocate your child to the most suitable age group for his/her level of commitment and ability. Who will coach my child? We have a professional and experienced team. Based on your location, we will determine who your child’s coach will be. Our current team at present includes: Aaron Frankcomb (former PSA World #38) Mike Dickens Sam Goodman Are the coaches qualified to work with children? Yes. Our coaches are qualified and experienced in coaching sports to children. They also hold current Working with Children Check (WWCC), which are carried out by the Department of Justice and Community Safety to protect children under 18 years of age. Is all equipment provided? We provide racquets for children who do not have one. All other training equipment, including squash balls, will be provided. What do the kids need to participate in the classes? Your child needs the following:
How many children do you allow for each class? We have capped each class at 12 kids, or fewer, to give each child appropriate coaching and attention needed while keeping the atmosphere fun, challenging and social. Will my child get enough “coaching” attention? Yes. Our coaches are trained and qualified to give each child sufficient and appropriate attention required to improve skill acquisition and performance. As stated above, we limit each class to 12 kids, or fewer, to provide all kids with the attention they need. I have a Scoopon voucher, how do I register it? To redeem a Scoopon voucher, you will need to provide the Active Kids voucher for each child and your Scoopon Voucher Number/s. Junior Squads will help your child develop social skills, self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience, develop hand-eye coordination, improve self-discipline, and build strong values through evidence-based learning science.
