Women's Prize Money

A few months ago, the WSA and PSA combined to become one body for professional squash - and it looks like it has helped Women's Squash with Women's Prize Money up about 30% this past year! This is exciting news for all of our players and the squash community to bring in viewers for both sides as well as increase prize money and support for the sport as a whole. In general, there has been much more female involvement with the sport of squash, so the increase in pay is helping to bring that female participation into the professional level. In addition, we are seeing lots of growth with East Coast's own women's participation and we are super excited to be offering several clinics, squads, and camps to keep growing the numbers here in Sydney!

"Squash Decline Crisis"??

Squashplayer.co.uk posted an interesting article earlier this week concerning the declining number of squash players in England. England's estimate of about 325,000 squash players is similar to the current estimate of 300,000 squash players in Australia, but England's overall population about doubles that of Australia! Locally, East Coast Squash Academy is proud to boast a 700% increase in junior participation at the Bondi Waverley Club and 250% increase of female participation at our Beginner/Intermediate Squads at Willoughby! These are just two examples of the growth of squash in Sydney as East Coast continuously introduces new players to the sport and adds more opportunities for current players to play and improve.

What does this mean for squash in Australia? Stay tuned as we see how the number of squash players locally, nationally, and internationally is updated as the year progresses!

This weekend, East Coast Squash Academy director Aaron Frankcomb and team member Moana Gray participated in "Unleash the Speaker Within" held by Exponential Programs! In a two day course, Aaron and Moana were given the opportunity to learn about speaking and presence. Thank you to Exponential Programs for another great course; we are excited about the many team developments over the past few weeks and to the future for even more ways to provide you with the largest and most qualified Squash coaching faculty in Australia.

8 Coaches Certified At Willoughby Squash Club

To provide the best possible coaching staff to its clients, The East Coast Squash Academy had 4 junior players, 1 elite player, 1 high performance player, and 2 staff members obtain their Oz Squash Coaching Certification and Club Coaching Certifications. These are new qualifications provided by Squash Australia as they moved from level coaching to performance based coaching certifications at the start of 2014. We are excited to be apart of this new forward-looking system. With 8 new coaches certified, we are proud to have Australia's largest and most qualified squash coaching faculty.

Thank you to Grant Gough for coming to Sydney and running this weekend long course at Willoughby Squash Club.

May NSW Junior Squash Rankings

East Coast Squash Academy reach a new high of 22 players ranked on the NSW Squash ranking list with 2 players - Tom Lacy and Ryan Marshall, number 1 in their respective age groups in the state of NSW. In addition, we are proud to say that 20 of our juniors are top 10 ranked players. Keep up the good work!
