"Our tour started on Friday the 27th of November with a group of 5 members from Willoughby Squash Club competed in the City of Clarence Open. We had a fun filled weekend with great food, drink, squash, and site seeing.
We stayed in Sandy Bay, about a 7 minute walk away from downtown Hobart where we spent most of our time around the beautiful Salamanca. This was a great area for food, drinks and social events. The significant others who made the trip had the opportunity relinquish their shopping skills at the classic Salamanca markets.
While this shopping shenanigans were going on, the 5 of us playing were grueling it out at the squash courts from 9am-4pm. Our team had a great time playing out of East Side Squash center, experiencing the Tasmanian style of play. David Mulchay ran a great event and built interest from states such as NSW, SA and VIC. He managed and organised a superb event with over 90 participants.
Simon Frankcomb had the match of the tournament losing in over an hour and a half brutal 12:10 loss in the fifth game to narrowly missing out on the semi finals of the men’s open. He soon recovered by drinking his sorrows away :) ….!
The two East Coast Squash Academy faculty members, met in the men’s open final. Aaron took the “W” in a tough 3/0 victory against High performance player, Darcy Evans. The groups results are posted below with some fun pictures from the weekend, too.
We had a great time in TAS, both for squash and during some leisure time! Thanks again to all the locals for making us feel welcome. It was fantastic to see the Mayer of Clarence turning up to watch, support the grand finals and present the awards."
