Saturday 22nd Oct was World Squash Day! We had an open day at both of our locations, Willoughby and Bondi Waverley Squash Clubs! There were coaches at both locations providing free hits and tips, as well as open courts, free use of equipment, BBQ, coupons, face-painting and tattoos. We had signs to honk for squash and our junior development team was able to get 101 honks in under an hour and a half! We were really feeling the love and support from the community.
At Willoughby, there was even a jar filled with squash balls. The person who guessed the correct number inside of the jar won a free training squad. Over 60 people participated in guessing the number of squash balls and the guesses ranged from 28 to 214. Several people were close and there were many who were just one squash ball off from the actual number. We want to congratulate Ivan Patchett on guessing the correct number of 85 squash balls inside of the jar!

Following World Squash Day, we had the Return Leg of the M40 Cup Challenge between Bondi Waverley and Willoughby. This time, the event was hosted by Willoughby. (See recap of first M40 Challenge Here) There were 26 matches (52 participants!) between players of all standards. We even had several of our junior development athletes join in! It was a timed format so players played three 8-minute games of cumulative scoring. Everyone was trying to win as many points as possible for their teams to come out victorious! Willoughby players sported a bright orange tee while the Bondi players wore a spunky purple. Following the members matches, Aaron Frankcomb and Matthew Karwalski put on an awesome exhibition styled match for everyone before we had a delicious Oktoberfest themed dinner of slow-cooked sausages, sauerkraut, pasta salad and more. The entire night's drinks were sponsored by our friends at Young Henry's and everybody enjoyed the Real Ale and Newtowner all night long.
In the end, Bondi Waverley reigned supreme again, winning by a mere 12 points, even though Willoughby won the number of matches. The friendly but competitive matches between the two clubs has created an awesome relationship and grown the network of squash players in the Sydney area.
